Baseline Study for developing a gold standard voluntary carbon project on charcoal production and consumption

The study was conducted from October to December 2017 with the financial support from HELVETAS Nepal. Study was done on the prevalence of traditional pit system being practiced in the study districts, and charcoal yield from traditional pit system by informal sector, quality of charcoal, occupational health and safety of the workers involved in charring process was determined. Similarly, the project studied about the production potential and economics of charcoal production, explored the consumption of charcoal produced by informal sector and documented entire value chain of production through consumption of charcoal by type (Bee-hive briquette, Pillow briquette, cylindrical briquette, loose charcoal and Pulverized charcoal) using modern technologies by the formal sector.
