To facilitate the reform process of electricity distribution, a preliminary discussion program was organized by Nepal Energy Foundation in collaboration with Niti Foundation on 27th January 2019, which convened experts of the electricity sector to share ideas on problems, challenges, and way forward for the electricity distribution system in Nepal.
Activities, Training, and Workshops
Workshop on Role of Women in Household Energy Efficiency
On 27th July 2018, the workshop was conducted in partnership with Centre for Energy Studies, Institute of Engineering, and Women Network for Energy and Environment- Nepal (WoNEE) and the aim of workshop was to provide information about energy efficiency to women, with the objective of promoting household Energy Efficiency by women. Selected experts of energy sector, and the participants from and invited by WoNEE took part in the workshop.
Renewable Energy Training to Women
Two trainings were conducted in April 2018 under this activity, one in Bara and one in Kathmandu in financial support from AEPC and collaboration with WoNEE. Aim of the training was to provide knowledge of renewable energy, electrical safety, role of civil society in energy sector, productive use of energy, and energy efficiency (conservation) among the women of different districts.
Dialogue/ Workshop on Efficient Management of Micro Hydro
ISET-Nepal supported NEF in conducting this dialogue, which took place on 17-18 September, 2017 at Kavre. The major objectives of the workshop were to provide knowledge and sensitize the MHPs and CREEs on resilience concept, to discuss about efficient management of MHPs, and to impart knowledge about the Good Governance through efficient management, transparency and effective services.
Provincial Level Civil Society Consultation on SEforALL Country Action Agenda Nepal
To inform civil society about SEforALL activities, to share progress and draft results of country action agenda, and to ensure the involvement of civil society organization in delivery of SEforALL Country Action Agenda, a civil society consultation was conducted in Pokhara. Participants from civil societies, NGOs, and local organizations working on energy sector of Province 4 took part in the consultation workshop, and the activity was financially supported by Practical Action Nepal.
Capacity Building Workshop of District — of NACEUN
On 25th December 2016, a workshop for District chapter of National Association of Community Electricity Users Nepal (NACEUN) was conducted at Baireni, Dnading. The workshop was conducted in coordination with ISET-N and NACEUN. Members of district committee of NACEUN from Dhading, Gorkha, Kavre and Lalitpur were gathered together and were oriented on ways to effectively operate the district chapter. Concept of resilience at the face of adversities, integration of renewable energy on community electrification and resource mobilization were also presented at the workshop.
Energy Service Governance Workshop/Training
On 27th and 28th October 2016, an Energy Service Governance Training was conducted, where various local and central level partners working on sustainable energy service delivery took part. Governance training basically covered the concept of energy service governance, accountability, transparency, service quality, technology justice, tariff and relevant policy and acts. After conduction of the workshop/training, several feedbacks were received, and considering the experience and received responses, NEF concluded that the term energy includes wider spectrum including all types of fuels and technologies. And it would be difficult to intervene in whole energy sector at a time due to limitation of knowledge, tools, resources, and capacity. Thus, NEF would be promoting electricity governance instead of energy governance. With this learning, NEF has already developed concept and tools for promotion of electricity governance, and will be taken forward through capacity building of consumers and electricity service providers.
Energy for Youth: A Workshop conducted at Nalang VDC of Dhading
A workshop entitled “Energy for Youth” was conducted on 2nd October, 2016, in Nalang VDC of » Dhading district. Youths, locals, representatives from local political parties, teachers, students, and women of Nalang VDC participated on the workshop. And, information on importance and relevance of renewable energy, business opportunities as well as involvement of youth in renewable energy sector were discussed on the workshop.
Promotion of Good Governance Service in Baluwa Community Rural Electricity Users, Kavre
Nepal Energy Foundation conducted an orientation training to Baluwa Community Rural Electricity Users, Kavre, on 14th and 15th of April, 2016. The objective of the J workshop was to introduce general concept ¢ of good governance being specific to the pillars of governance in energy sector with due focus on legal, financial, social and technical accountability of the energy service providers. Altogether 28 participants including executive members of Balua Community Rural Electricity Users, and members of local CBOs took part in the training, out of which 5 were female.
Initiation on Role of Provincial and Local Government in Energy Access
Nepal Energy Foundation in collaboration with Institute for Social and Environmental Transition-Nepal (ISET-N) organized a discussion program on “Role of Provincial and Local Government to Energy Access”. This discussion program brought together the experts of (rural/ renewable) energy sector and local government to present and explore their views and discuss about the role of provincial and local government for providing access of energy as well as energy security to Nepalese, and share the effective role and responsibility of local and provincial government for doing so.
